Mitel 5310 IP Conference Unit Frequently Asked Questions
What is the optimum room size for the 5310 IP Conference Unit?
The 5310 IP Conference Unit is targeted at bigger rooms, 15'X25'. The 5310 IP Conference Unit has Presentation Mode and Direction indicators. The 5310 IP Conference Unit works with the 5220, 5224, 5235, 5324, 5330, 5340 and 5360 IP Phones. The 5310 IP Conference Unit uses beamforming array for exceptional microphone performance and has the light ring indicators around the Saucer unit to indicate the microphone direction.
Can two 5310 IP Conference Units be used in a very big conference room (larger than 15'X25')?
No, this is highly not recommended. The beamforming algorithm is space area and speaker position dependent. Having multiple units in a room will not make the audio quality any better. In rooms larger than this, the 5310 IP Conference Unit is not a good fit.
Is a separate power adapter necessary to power the 5310 IP Conference Unit on a 5235, 5324, 5330, 5340 or 5360 IP Phone?
When the 5310 IP Conference Unit is used on the 5324, 5330, 5340 or 5360 IP Phones, you do not need a separate power adapter. Whatever power source you are using to power the Phone (i.e. PoE or local power) will also power the 5310 Conference Unit.
Power adapters are NOT included with either the IP Phone or the 5310 Conference Unit. They need to be purchased separately.
Do I need a separate Power Adapter when I use the 5310 Conference Unit behind a 5220 or 5224 IP Phone?
Yes, a 24v Power Adapter is required when using the 5310 IP Conference Unit on a 5220 or 5224 IP Phone with Side Control. Power adapters are not included with the product and must be purchased separately. The Part Number for the 24V Power Adapter is 50005300.
Does the conference unit need a separate IP address or does it use the same one as the IP Phone it works with?
The IP conference units do not need a separate IP address. Because they are peripherals, the 5310 IP Conference Units share the IP address with the IP Phone they are attached to.
Who is the target audience for these IP Conference Units?
The 5310 IP Conference units are intended for use on Mitel IP Communications Platforms.
The 5310 IP Conference Unit is targeted for use in the larger conference rooms. Best performance is achieved in rooms of up to 15'X25'. It is best suited for group conferencing, where its Presentation Mode and Direction Indicators will be best utilized. Presentation Mode allows the presenters to fix the beam on themselves, so that the parties on the other end of the conference can follow the main topic easier, without hearing all the background noises and conversations. Should the presenter decide to open the floor for discussion, they can turn off the Presentation Mode and everyone's voice can then be heard when they participate in the discussion.
That's where the value of the Direction Indicators of this unit can be best appreciated. In a round table discussion, each participant will know that their voice has been received by the unit, by seeing the lit LED corresponding to their location in the room. If the LED is lit, the person who is speaking will know that the listeners on the phone line can hear her/him with the highest quality sound.
What do I need to order to add a 5310 Conference Unit to the IP Phones?
To add conferencing to the 5235 / 5324 / 5330 / 5340 / 5360 IP Phones, order:
50005321 Mitel 5310 IP Conference Module (This fits into the module slot on the back of phone)
50004459 5310 IP Conference Saucer, Dark Grey
Note: The 5235, 5324, 5330, 5340 and 5360 IP Phones support Power over Ethernet to the 5310 IP Conference Module (v2), when it is inserted into the module compartment on the back of the phones. The 5235, 5324, 5330, 5340 and 5360 IP Phones have been designed to pass Power Over Ethernet to the 5310 IP Conference Module, eliminating the need for the additional 24VDC Power Adapter.
To add Conferencing to the 5220 / 5224 IP Phones, order:50004461 Mitel 5310 IP Conference Side Control (This attaches to the side of the phone)
50004459 5310 IP Conference Saucer, Dark Grey plus:50005300 24V Universal Power Adapter* (if one is not already powering the phone locally)
*The 5310 IP Conference Unit with Side Control used on a 5220 or 5224 IP Phone always needs the 24V Power Adapter (50005300). It powers both the 5310 Side Control / Conference Saucer, and the phone itself.
